Information on Existing Solar Installations
When you enter the web site, you will see a map of San Francisco, with markers identifying existing solar installations in the City. Click on a marker on the map to pull up information about that solar installation. You can also find photos of existing installations by clicking on "Photo Gallery" in the blue bar on the bottom of the screen.
Estimating a Building's Rooftop Solar PV Potential
To see a building's rooftop solar potential, type in the address in the address line indicated in the bar at the right hand side of the screen. For help entering the address, click on the
button. Once you enter your address, click "get my info." This will pull up an aerial photo of the building, along with an estimate of the rooftop's solar PV potential, estimated annual system output and associated energy savings, and estimated annual CO2 emissions mitigated. Click on the "How Estimates Were Derived" link to learn about the assumptions and calculations that were used to derive these estimates. You can also click on the other links provided to get to other on-line resources for estimating the cost (before and after state and federal incentives) of installing a solar PV system, finding a solar installer, and getting more detailed information.
Additional Information
You will find more information about San Francisco's solar program in the bar at the right hand side of the screen, including information about the total number of solar systems currently installed in the City, how much energy these systems are producing, how much money San Franciscans are saving on their utility bills as a result, and how much CO2 is being offset by these installations. You will see how far along San Francisco is in reaching its 10,000 solar rooftops goal, along with projections of how much solar electricity we'll be generating, how much money we'll be saving on our electric bills, and how much CO2 we'll be offsetting when we meet this goal.
